What is astrocartography?

Astrocartography places selected birth-chart points on a world map. It shows calculated lines, while their personal meaning remains a symbolic interpretation.

Brief explanations help you read without specialist knowledge. Astrological terms describe a symbolic method, not scientifically established personality traits.

A natal chart is built for one place. Astrocartography takes the same birth moment and asks a different question: for every longitude on Earth, where would each planet have been exactly rising, setting, crossing the upper meridian (culminating), or crossing the lower meridian, at that same instant? Plotting the answer produces four curved lines per planet across a world map. This part is a real, well-defined spherical-astronomy projection — the same kind of Sun/planet rise-set-transit geometry described in standard references such as Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms — not a metaphor; two people using the same birth data and the same projection method get the same lines.

The interpretive practice of reading meaning into where those lines fall — the idea that relocating near a given planet's line changes how that planet's traditional themes show up in your life — is a specific technique named Astro*Carto*Graphy, developed by the American astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s. That history is well documented (see the source below), and it matters here for the same reason it matters throughout this project: the lines themselves are a calculation anyone can reproduce, while what a line near a given city is said to mean for you is Lewis's and later astrologers' interpretive framework, not a further measurement.

This project's own free preview surface shows a visitor their own calculated lines without the purchased interpretive layer — consistent with keeping the geometry and the narrative separate throughout. Building your own chart first is the starting point for either: see "What is a natal chart?".
